My Dear Brothers and Sisters:

It is with mixed emotions that I submit to you my resignation from the Committee of Adjustment, effective immediately.

On May 30th, I was offered and accepted the position of Paratransit Administrator for the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District.

After I accepted the position, I realized that instantly, I could not longer in good faith represent the interests of UTU. My first phone call was to my wife, to let her know that I got the promotion. My next call was to Chair Bonnie Morr, to advise her that I must step away from my duties.

I am excited about the challenges and opportunities this position opens up for me, and am happy to know that because it was filled from within our ranks, one less Operator gets laid off.

Still, moving on is not without some regrets; being a Bus Operator has been a very positive part of my life. Even with all of the hardships and challenges inherent in being an Operator, it has been the best job I have ever had. The sense of community and connectedness that exists within the membership of UTU is something I have never before experienced and being a Union representative has provided me with mental stimulation and challenged my way of thinking. In particular, the opportunity to serve as the Local 23 webmaster was a highlight for me.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving with you.
