Dear Diary, (September 2002)

"Honey... you get to buy that big screen tv!" When Steve heard those words he knew it meant more than shopping at Circuit City... the real message was I had agreed to accept a temporary promotion to Recreation Superintendent, filling in for my boss while she is interim Director of Parks and Recreation. For me it meant leaving my beloved Community Center in exchange for a downtown office, a big raise, a huge learning curve and the challenge of taking over for a boss renowned for knowing everyone and everything (scary!) Although only a temporary situation (3 months? 6 months? a year? forever?), while we wait to see what the voters do with the utility tax in November's election, and what the City Manager decides to do with the Director position, the last few days at the Center were sad for me. Everyone, and everything, was unbearably precious. Because you can never really go back. Things change. Like Steve's hair! Look at that... now he really looks like management! last • next
