Dear Diary, (October 2002)

Per the norm, October was a mixed bag. Worry, worry, worry... about health and jobs. The approach of election day and the frightful potential repeal of the City's utility tax (which would cause massive layoffs in Parks and Recreation and the possible closure of my beloved Community Center), and an annual doc visit which found things to worry about, made for a stressful month. On the flip side, we bought a canoe and got away for a heavenly long weekend. Not quite ready for whitewater, we chose lake paddling in the Sierras. Utica Lake (a reservoir formerly known as the North Fork of the Stanislaus River) was perfect ... quiet solitude, water's edge camping, sweeping vistas, hiking, bicycling, canoeing... and swimming for Charlie. last • next
